DISCURSO DIRECTO, 19

António Costa ao Financial Times. Excertos:

«The PS is the most pro-European party in Portugal. Faced with the radicalism of the current government and the brutal measures the country has suffered, there now exists the possibility of rolling back austerity without calling our international obligations into question. We’re not bluffing, but acting in good faith. Negotiations [with the left] on the creation of a new government led by the PS. This is like tearing down the last remains of a Berlin Wall. The PS has not moved to the side of the anti-European parties, rather they have agreed to negotiate a common government programme without putting Portugal’s commitments as an active member of the eurozone at risk. Almost 62 per cent of the electorate voted for a change. The rightwing coalition cannot carry on as if nothing has happened

O jornal sublinha: «However, parties to the left of centre won a majority of seats in parliament, making the Socialists pivotal power brokers and giving Mr Costa a crucial role in deciding who will govern next.»
